Welcome to the latest news update from the School of Public Policy
Congratulations to our new alumni!

It's been an incredibly challenging and unusual term, but we are delighted to welcome a new cohort of leavers to our SPP alumni community! We're absolutely thrilled for everyone who has graduated with a Masters of Public Administration, a Masters of Public Policy, an Executive MPA or an Executive MPP. You've all done so well under particularly trying circumstances, and we know our alumni community joins us in wishing you all the very best for the future.

Take a look at some of the alumni benefits and opportunities now open to you; or if you have any questions about the alumni engagement programme at the SPP, just get in touch with Hannah Shearer.

Alumni in Action
Meet Alessio Terzi
Our Alumni in the Spotlight is Alessio Terzi (MPA, 2011). Alessio has enjoyed a varied career after leaving the SPP; he is currently an economist at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs, tackling some of the key economic issues of our time. You can read more about Alessio's story online.

Do you know an alumnus whose story should be shared with the SPP community? It could be a friend, a colleague, someone whose work you admire from afar - it could even be yourself! Drop us a line to recommend the next alumni profile.
Alumni Activities

We've continued to keep our alumni connected this past term, with three fantastic alumni events taking place via Zoom:

  • Our COVID-19 Response Discussion: an open house event for those interested in the worldwide pandemic responses to share their experiences and explore best practice.
  • The SPP Summertime Social: a chance for all SPP alumni and faculty to relax, catch up with old friends, and celebrate the summer!
  • The Big SPP End-of-Academic-Year Pub Quiz: an online pub quiz for all faculty, alumni and students to come together and enjoy a little friendly competition.

We loved seeing all of you there, and a particular congratulations to our MPA Programme Manager Michelle Batten for her victory at the end of year pub quiz!

We will be monitoring the ongoing situation in regards to future events; however for the time being we are planning to focus on virtual events in the upcoming Michaelmas Term to ensure our alumni's safety and comfort, and to keep our international community connected.

Many alumni have been kind enough to share career advice and course experiences with students and offer-holders during the term. A big thank you to everyone who has taken the time to support the SPP community - if you would be happy to be approached for career advice, just let us know.

Alumni in the Wild
It's always exciting to hear about an alumna's new job - even moreso when that alumna returns to LSE! We're delighted to announce that Katarzyna Szwarc (EMPA, 2019) has recently joined LSE's Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment, as a policy fellow in sustainable finance.

Katarzyna tells us: ' Joining GRI as a Policy Fellow is a great opportunity to put into practice my knowledge of financial sector and make it more sustainable. I really look forward to working with all the great people who are best of class experts in their disciplines but also to becoming an active member of the LSE community once again.' Congratulations, Katarzyna!

A New Role for Paul Sullivan
From September onwards Department Manager Paul Sullivan will be taking on an exciting new role as Interim Head of Strategy Delivery at the LSE Directorate, as part-time maternity cover.

In this role he will be working with LSE’s School Management Committee to provide facilitative leadership and coordination as LSE delivers its 2030 strategy. Paul will work with the Director of LSE and other institutional leaders to ensure that the priorities and principles of the strategy are embedded across LSE. He'll still be spending half his time working at the SPP in his current role, and we're delighted not to be losing him completely - all the very best for your new role, Paul!
